Welcome to the Minstrels of Valour Guild
A History Lesson
Little is known about the origins of the Minstrels of Valour. What is known however is that the guild originated long before the reign of King Floyd the mad. It is thought that it was the MoV who first discovered the strange effects that music can have on an individual, making a warrior more brutal in combat or a goblin so demoralised that it cannot even swing a sword.
What is known is that during the reign of King Floyd, the MoV were at the peak of there power, using their music to turn the tide of battle wherever they were needed. It is also known that the advisory council to the king would hire MoV bards to sing soothing songs to the troubled king before they gave him bad news as he was said to have a terrible temper and very quick to outlaw anything he saw fit.
It was during one of the kings many tours of his kingdom that saw the MoV lose much of its power. The king was visiting the then hamlet of Merrywell when he heard a bard singing the then popular song “Our king is mad”. This obviously infuriated the king to the point at which he wanted to outlaw all music in public places.
Upon hearing the news of what had happened, the MoV leader Celia Jamhorn offered her life to the king to save music from the outlawing. The mad king was pleased with this proposal and Celia spent the rest of her days in service of the king and though music was not outlawed the guild was closed and its wealth of music destroyed.
It is said however that not all its music was destroyed and the MoV members managed to save its most powerful songs for future generations to find.
Today
The lack of interest in today's young men and women to learn how to use a musical instrument to its full potential has seen an attempt to rebuild the MoV. A young male elven bard by the name of Jackanory, the self proclaimed bard of distinction has taken it upon himself to rebuild the long forgotten guild in the hopes of encouraging others to learn the bardic arts.
